The Beginning - English

Today, August 26th, 2024, I will fly from Amsterdam via Xiamen to the beautiful island Bali at 9:30 PM. My internship starts...

Hello!👋 My name is Judith Bogema, a third-year Facility Management & Honours student at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. I will be doing a 100-day internship on the Indonesian island of Bali. My internship is at a wedding planning company, also I will be doing a research project on improving the health of the employees in the company. I am writing this blog as part of my honours course to inspire new students and give a better understanding of what an internship abroad could really be like. In this blog, I will share my experiences, ups, downs, tips & tricks with everyone who wants to join me on this journey.

When I started studying in Groningen, I heard about the option of doing an internship abroad right from the introduction of my program, and I was sold immediately. I'm adventurous and love discovering new places and cultures around the world. Over the past few months, I've talked a lot about it with the people I care about, and now, suddenly, I'm at the airport, said goodbye to friends and family, sublet my student room, and ready to live on the other side of the world for half a year without knowing what lies ahead.

Tip:

Ask yourself if an internship abroad is really something for you. You'll be abroad for 5 to 6 months, which is a very long time. You'll also need to have an open attitude toward other cultures and be willing to make a lot of new social connections. Think carefully about whether you can handle this, or if you'd rather go on vacation to a faraway country instead of doing an internship. That can also be a lot of fun! And you'll have more free time.😉
