The Solution - English

As I mentioned in my last post, I experienced some issues during the first month with finding tasks to fill my days. I informed my internship coach about this and scheduled a meeting with him. I also notified the contact person from YPI (the internship agency in Bali that arranged my placement), who then contacted my internship company. The internship coordinators and the international internship office were also informed. Initially, this all seemed like a lot of hassle to me, but in the end, it wasn’t as bad as I had expected.

The very next day, my internship supervisor approached me with a full-day task in another department of the company. That day, I worked in the marketing and promotion department and had a very fun and educational experience. Additionally, I brainstormed some ideas about what I thought I could do and came up with my own proposal. I’m going to explore whether it’s possible to attract more Western clients and employees. I’ll be doing this alongside the tasks I was already working on, which not only gives me fuller days but also more variety in my work. I’m also getting a much better understanding of how different departments work together to keep the company running, which is especially valuable for me as a Facility Management student.

Tip: If you find yourself in a similar situation to mine, come up with your own proposal. This tip was also given to me by my internship coach, and it really works. If you clearly communicate what you want to learn or work on, there’s a good chance your internship company can accommodate it. Sometimes, an internship company might not always fully understand where your needs lie, and you can often achieve more than you think.

Tip: If you run into any challenges, discuss them openly with everyone, especially with your fellow students/housemates. They might be experiencing similar things and can offer you a lot of help.

I had made this whole situation a bit bigger in my head than it needed to be. I had already imagined the worst-case scenario. Now, I feel much more relaxed and know much better what I can do, and I go to my internship with more enjoyment.
